The Podiatry service assesses, diagnoses and treats a variety of conditions affecting the foot and lower limb. Although most of our patients are adults, we do also see children

Individual treatment packages are offered based on podiatric need.

A range of services are available and include:

  • Biomechanical assessment of painful lower limb conditions
  • Surgery for ingrowing toenails
  • Core podiatry care, including foot health promotion and self-care advice.

Footwear matters more than you think

Children’s feet are soft, pliable, and still developing, so poorly fitting shoes can cause long term issues. Always measure both length and width and avoid hand me downs, as even slight differences can affect how the foot develops.

Top footwear tips:

  • Look for firm heel counters, flexible soles, and breathable materials
  • Check shoe fit every 6–8 weeks in the early years, feet grow fast!
  • Encouraging time indoors barefoot to strengthen foot muscles (when safe)

When to consider seeing a Podiatrist:

  • Persistent pain in feet, knees, or legs
  • Limping or awkward walking
  • In-toeing or out-toeing, frequent trips or falls
  • Hard skin, bunions, or persistent overlapping toes which are rigid
  • Complaints of tired, painful feet after short periods of activity

Please note: The NHS podiatry service is NOT able to provide:

  1. Simple toenail cutting where there are no underlying medical risk factors.
  2. Verruca treatments
