Everyone has a right to be safe
Safeguarding means protecting people from abuse, neglect, and any form of harm.
West London NHS Trust is committed to safeguarding all children and adults with care and support needs. Protecting children is a priority, and we expect every member of staff and every volunteer to share this commitment and to remain alert to any concerns involving a child or a young person.
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility
We have a duty to ensure that children, young people, families, carers, and all those receiving our services are protected and receive safe, effective care.
The Six Guiding Principles of Safeguarding
-
Empowerment: Children, young people, and families are listened to, informed, and involved in decisions wherever possible.
-
Protection: Strong support and advocacy for those at greatest risk, with particular attention to the needs and vulnerabilities of children.
-
Prevention: Early identification of risks to children and adults, taking action before harm occurs.
-
Proportionality: Responses that are appropriate, proportionate, and the least intrusive while still ensuring safety.
-
Partnership: Effective safeguarding for children depends on close partnership working with families, schools, health providers, social care, and local communities. Everyone has a role in preventing, identifying, and reporting concerns.
-
Accountability: Clear responsibility, openness, and transparency in all safeguarding actions and decisions.
