Broadmoor Hospital redevelopment

The new Broadmoor Hospital opened in December 2019, delivering the first phase of the redevelopment of the site.

The site in which the hospital is situated consists of a range of buildings, dating from the mid-1800s to the 1980s.  These buildings have housed wards, therapies, sports, administration and estates, and facilities services.  Some of the older Victorian buildings are listed.

The site is being redeveloped to reflect the needs of staff and patients, and due to the age and construction of the original buildings.

Green Park

Through gardening and pottery activities, patients can develop concentration, establish daily routines, work collaboratively, and follow structured instructions.

The mental health and well-being benefits of horticultural and creative therapies are well-documented and regularly experienced by those who attend Green Park. It’s a space where patients can grow confidence, express themselves, and take meaningful steps in their recovery journey

Supporting local schools

As part of the decommissioning of the buildings, equipment, and furniture that are no longer needed but still in good condition, have been donated to local schools.  These are helping with the development of new learning areas to help schools comply with COVID-19 social distancing requirements.
