Three mental health recovery hubs, “Safe Spaces”, have opened in new locations across West London, giving local people a safe place to go when they are struggling with their mental health.

The new locations in Ealing, Hammersmith and Fulham and Hounslow are provided by Hestia, a charity that specialises in mental health crisis support. They are run on behalf of West London NHS Trust, demonstrating the Trust’s continued commitment to supporting people in mental health crisis.

The Safe Spaces offer a free, safe and welcoming environment for adults (18+) who are feeling overwhelmed, anxious or unable to cope. People can walk in without an appointment or referral and speak with trained staff who offer compassionate, non-judgemental support, and help to connect people with the right local services. Open in the evenings, weekends and bank holidays, the Safe Spaces provide vital support at times when many other services are often closed.

The Safe Spaces aim to equip people with the skills they need to reduce their immediate distress.  Visitors will receive:

  • A safe, welcoming space and a listening ear
  • One-to-one support to create bespoke support plans
  • Support providing advice, information and connecting with local services and community support
  • A hot drink and a snack

These Safe Spaces provide a community-based crisis alternative to emergency departments, helping people access support earlier and preventing mental health crises from escalating.

Open 14:00–22:00, 365 days a year, including bank holidays.

Dr Christopher Hilton, Chief Operating Officer said:

"We're delighted to be entering into this new partnership with Hestia to deliver our Safe Spaces for the coming years.

“Safe Spaces are a vital part of our menu of services available to individuals experiencing mental health distress, providing timely, compassionate support away from high‑pressure environments such as A&E.
“Along with our partners Central and North West London NHS Trust and the specialist expertise of Hestia, residents across North West London now have access to consistent services across the area, ensuring no matter where someone seeks help, they receive the same high‑quality, person‑centred support."

Patrick Ryan, Chief Executive of Hestia, said:

“When someone is struggling with their mental health, having a safe place to go and someone to talk to can be critical. These hubs provide compassionate, community-based support outside normal working hours, helping people get the help they need at the time they most need it.
