Bertha Matunge has been appointed West London NHS Trust’s new Deputy Chief Nurse.
Bertha was previously Director of Nursing and Quality, at Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. Prior to that, she held senior nursing positions at Surrey and Borders Partnership Trust, and Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust.
We would like to thank Suzanne Morton, Interim Deputy Chief Nurse for her hard work and commitment while she covered the post from July 2024. We wish her a happy and fulfilling retirement.
Bertha is a Mental Health Nurse (RMN) and Non-Medical Prescriber. She qualified as an RMN in Birmingham in 2006, after moving on from her teaching career.
Her nursing career began at Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust, before she moved to St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust, where she worked on adult acute mental health inpatient wards, followed by Crisis Resolution Home Treatment teams.
Her leadership journey began when she transitioned into nursing education, where she was the trust’s senior development nurse for three years.
Bertha holds qualifications in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy, Behavioural Family Therapy and Psycho-social Assessments. She has utilised her skill set to champion and lead co-produced, innovative quality improvement projects to enhance service user experiences across organisations.
Bertha is passionate about nursing practice development and combines her previous experience as a teacher with her mental health expertise, sharing her skills and knowledge as a visiting lecturer at Kingston University.
She said:
