Over 40 members of the public attended yesterday’s National No Smoking Day event, where local residents were invited to access expert advice and support to help them quit. D. Assadourian, Ealing resident, said: “I came here because I received the text message from the NHS, inviting me to attend. It was fairly a quick process to get my health checked, listen to advice from the staff here, and get my vapes as an alternative way of smoking. Excited to try them, as it’s my first time!”

West London NHS Trust organised the event jointly with the Ealing Council, as part of the Ealing Smokefree Service, a free, evidence-based programme that has already supported hundreds of people to improve their health by stopping smoking. Fionn McManus, Heathy Lifestyle Team Lead (Long Term Conditions), West London NHS Trust said: “It was great to see so many residents taking that first step toward better health. Events like this allow us to have real conversations about the support available, and to show people that quitting is achievable with the right guidance.”

Held on 12 March at Ealing Broadway Perceval House, the event welcomed residents aged 18 and over. Attendees who felt ready to begin their quit journey were able to take home a free vape starter kit, offering immediate, practical support to help them get started. A team of healthcare professionals were on site to help provide free health checks, giving personalised advice on how stopping smoking can significantly improve the management of long-term conditions such as diabetes and asthma.

Reflecting on the success of the event, Dr Sapna Chauhan, Public Health Principal from Ealing Council said: “We’re proud to offer a service that meets people where they are. This turnout shows just how much appetite there is for accessible, practical help to quit smoking, and we’re committed to continuing that support across Ealing, together with West London NHS Trust.”
