The Trust's first mental health nursing degree apprentices have qualified as nurses.

The Nursing Degree Apprenticeship was formed in 2018, in partnership with Buckinghamshire New University (BNU). It’s designed to be a pathway towards being a fully qualified mental health nurse.

The programme has been a great success so far, with one of the graduates, Adam Cramp, winning Apprentice of the Year in Our Health Hero Awards 2018. He also featured as part of a government funding announcement on nursing along with fellow graduate Becky White.

Stephanie Bridger, Director of Nursing and Patient Experience at West London NHS Trust, said:

“Congratulations to all our nursing graduates. They’ve done a fantastic job and I’m delighted they’re deciding to continue their careers at the Trust. We look forward to building on the success of this programme with more nurses willing to go down the route of completing a Nursing Degree Apprenticeship.”

Dr Lisa Reynolds, Head of School of Nursing, Midwifery & Allied Health at BNU, said:

“I am absolutely delighted to be able to congratulate our first BNU nursing graduates who completed their studies through an apprenticeship route.

“They were the pioneers of what has now become an established route to becoming a registered nurse; this is an amazing achievement and they have made history! I am sure they will make a difference to many people’s lives and be role models for future apprentices, inspiring others to become nurses who would not otherwise have thought this would be possible for them.”
