Congratulations to one of our exceptional nurses Melville Jimmy Garber who has been shortlisted for the 'Nurse of the Year' Award by the Nursing Times.

Melville, known as Jimmy at the Trust, works as a practice development nurse in acute local services.

He has worked ad hoc in locum capacity since 2015, but in 2019 Jimmy returned to the NHS and West London as a ward manager.

He's often seen working at both the Hammersmith and Fulham Mental Health Unit and at Lakeside Mental Health Unit.

Jimmy said: "It's an honour to be recognised as a passionate employee, clinician and practice development nurse at our beloved West London NHS Trust #WeAreWestLondon."

He said returning to work for West London NHS Trust was the "one and only option in his heart" and as a practice development nurse he is making a significant contribution to his field.

Jimmy says he's particularly interested in enhancing the inpatient experience on the Trust's acute wards, helping to train new and experienced nurses, as well as supporting recruitment and making sure staff are properly supported.

Outside of the Trust, Jimmy runs an international charity, he also writes and performs his own music, as well as short stories.

Jimmy is one of a select few who will now be invited to a live judging panel where he will be interviewed ahead of the award's ceremony.

He will be asked about his achievements so far and explain why he should be chosen to win the prestigious award.

The award's ceremony will be taking place on Wednesday 26 October this year.

Good luck Jimmy, we're all behind you.
