We’re enormously proud to announce that Chelsea Verrinder, a Nurse Apprentice at the Trust has been shortlisted in the Student Nursing Times Awards 2023 in the category of Student of the Year - Mental Health Nursing.

Chelsea was nominated by colleagues from Buckinghamshire New University with the support of her colleagues and peers at the Trust. They say:

“We’re very proud of Chelsea and what she has achieved but most importantly her contribution to supporting her peers on the programme and an ambitious quality to be a great nurse and success in her career progression.”

The Student Nursing Times Awards celebrate ‘the best of the next generation of nurses and their educators’ by hosting a live ceremony at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane, on Friday 28 April.

Chelsea, who says she feels ‘honoured to be recognised for such an amazing award’ works as a Nurse Apprentice in the Trust. She started as an honorary psychology student at Broadmoor Hospital in 2017, returning after completing her psychology degree as a healthcare facilitator in early 2019. She says:

“I don't think I really appreciated what nurses do until I started in this role, and this is where I developed an unexpected passion in nursing. And after working with a fantastic and supportive team through the awful first stages of the pandemic and seeing how dedicated nurses are to the job, I decided that I wanted to do my nurse training.”

“I got lucky really because my decision to pursue nursing and the advert for the apprenticeship course were around the same time, so it made sense to apply - and here we are!”

“It hasn't been the easiest ride, but I have never been more grateful for the support of Broadmoor and the Trust. They’ve provided me with valuable placements and a variety of learning opportunities, as well as having supported me whenever times were challenging.”

“I’m now in my final year looking forward to getting my PIN and finally being able to put everything I have learnt into practice.”

Congratulations on such a fantastic achievement, Chelsea. We wish you the absolute best of luck on the night in April.
