The Trust marked World Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Day on Wednesday 20 November by hosting patient engagement events at the Dominion Centre in Southall and Ealing Hospital.

This year's theme for World COPD Day was "Know Your Lung Function" and staff created informative posters that were displayed across the sites to help spread awareness.

The team hosted stands at both locations and reported great attendance, including patients, clinicians, and members of the public eager to learn more about COPD management and the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Team.

One patient shared that speaking with the team was extremely helpful and sparked their interest in joining the Pulmonary Rehabilitation programme and that they planned to consult their GP for a referral.

Another attendee reflected on the value of the programme, noting how it had previously helped them manage their symptoms better and expressing their desire to re-join.

Patients with other lung conditions also found the information provided to be useful. The event also promoted smoking cessation, with patients and clinicians taking educational leaflets.

As part of the initiative, team members engaged with acute respiratory ward staff to raise awareness about COPD and the importance of pulmonary rehabilitation. Volunteers from the Asthma and Lung UK support group, the Ealing Smoke Free service, and LNWH Ealing Hospital Respiratory Nurses also actively participated, contributing significantly to the event's success.

A heartfelt thank you to all members of the Ealing Pulmonary Rehabilitation team for their hard work and dedication in organising such a meaningful and impactful event.

The events were held in collaboration with the Ealing Smoke Free Service, the Home Oxygen Service, Ealing Hospital respiratory nurses, and the support group Asthma and Lung UK.
