We are proud to celebrate the success of colleagues at the 4th Annual Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCPsych) London Division Awards, held on Thursday 12 June 2025 at the College’s Prescott Street headquarters.
The evening brought together around 100 nominees, finalists, and guests to honour the remarkable achievements of psychiatrists, educators, patients and carers from across London. We are delighted to congratulate Dr Daniel Andrews, Director of Medical Education at West London NHS Trust, who received the prestigious Educator of the Year award.
Introducing Dr Andrews, RCPsych Registrar Dr Trudi Seneviratne remarked: “Daniel’s biggest strength is his relationship with resident doctors through his quiet reassurance and thoughtful guidance, he has helped them regain confidence and thrive.”
In his remarks, Dr Andrews expressed deep gratitude to his colleagues, trainers, education team and resident doctors “for the incredible work they do day in, day out.”
Dr Andrews added: “From trainee to consultant, I’ve learned that mutual respect and exchange of learning are essential. As medical educators, we’re not just shaping compassionate, confident doctors, we’re also helping define the standards of patient care and workplace culture, now and for the future.”
Dr Claire Dillon, Chief Medical Officer said: “Daniel is a huge asset to our Trust. A kind and supportive individual, who champions and improves medical education continuously.”
Alongside Dr Andrews, Dr Mona Jaffar-Karballai, a foundation doctor at West London NHS Trust, won Foundation Doctor of the Year for providing the highest standards of compassionate care and clinical expertise. During her Liaison Psychiatry rotation at West Middlesex Hospital, she earned admiration from her colleagues for her empathy, respectful conduct, and great collaboration across the multidisciplinary teams. Mona sets a powerful example for peers and future clinicians alike.
Other recognised individuals included:
- Dr Michael Yousif, shortlisted for Educator of the Year
- Daksha Samani, Moira and Phil Hunter (Cassel Hospital) shortlisted for Patient/Carer Contributor of the Year
Reflecting on the event, Dr Suhana Ahmed, Chair of RCPsych London Division and Deputy Chief Medical Officer at West London NHS Trust added: “The aim of the Awards is to honour those who quietly and humbly transform lives. I’m proud to say we’ve done that once again.”
