Stephanie Griffiths, Consultant Physiotherapist in Musculoskeletal (MSK) Care and Lead for Rehabilitation Services at Ealing Community Partners, recently took her work across continents, presenting at the prestigious World Congress of Physiotherapy in Tokyo, Japan in May.

The World Physiotherapy Congress is the world’s largest gathering of physiotherapy professionals, representing over 600,000 experts from 129 countries to share pioneering research and ideas that shape the future of physiotherapy care. The Congress is held every two years and serves as a hub to spotlight global innovation and collaboration. Stephanie’s research focused on the introduction of a digital tool designed to streamline MSK patient care by reducing the time clinicians spend reviewing and redirecting GP referrals. The project offered fascinating insight into the use of artificial intelligence (AI), and grew from a local innovation to the attention of an international audience following selection to present at the global stage. Stephanie also received the opportunity to learn about AI and innovation in other countries from Brazil and Canada to Ethiopia and Nepal in the subject area.

She said: “Although I was nervous, it was such a privilege to present my local work and bring it onto the global stage. It was a truly unforgettable learning experience, especially discovering how digital and AI tools are transforming healthcare around the world.”

The academic programme at the Congress also provided insights that have already impacted Stephanie and her team’s newest MSK project called, ‘The Impact of the Community Assessment Day’, a new approach to delivering MSK care.
