The Orchard at West London NHS Trust marked International Women’s Day with a lively event bringing staff and service users together to celebrate women and share experiences. The day reflected the Trust’s commitment to Working with our Patients and Communities and Putting People First by creating space for people to connect, express themselves, and shape the activities alongside staff.

The West London Forensic Service (WLFS) Choir opened the event with a warm, uplifting performance. Around the room, stalls and activities offered practical support and opportunities for conversation. The Women’s Health and Wellness Stall provided clear, accessible advice on physical and emotional wellbeing, while the Sustainability Stall encouraged people to share simple ways to live more sustainably.

The Open Mic proved one of the most popular parts of the event, with staff and service users performing poems, songs, spoken word and readings. There was also plenty of tasty food on offer for staff and service users in attendance.

A session dedicated to Inspirational Women Stories brought powerful moments of reflection. Staff and service users spoke about the women who had influenced their lives and shared personal experiences of resilience and recovery.

One of the service users at The Orchard said: "“Thank you to all the female staff in Aurora and Parkland Ward. Mental health is important and they have shown me it’s important to talk about it. Thank you for supporting me as I focus on my recovery.”

A photobooth with pledge cards were also shared, with people making commitments such as supporting other women, challenging stereotypes, or prioritising their own wellbeing. Indoor and outdoor games rounded off the afternoon, encouraging light‑hearted connection and social time.

The event highlighted the Orchard community at its best - creative, supportive, and centred on the voices of the women who use and deliver the service.
