The annual NHS Sustainability day of action takes place on the 8th June, which marks the importance of sustainable development within our National Health Service. With the recent launch of the trust’s green plan setting out our vision to become a sustainable NHS trust, our work is now well underway.
Staff have been sharing steps they are taking towards adopting sustainable practices. We recognise shared learning within the organisation helps to deliver the aims of our green plan, and we encourage our staff to play their part.
Most recently we have seen an increase of staff taking up cycling to work, playing their part not only for the environment but towards healthier travel choices. Our Estates and facilities team have been busy setting up bike workshops for staff to bring in their bikes for maintenance checks to support their cycling efforts. For the Queen’s platinum jubilee staff planted a tree at St Bernard’s hospital to commemorate the occasion in a sustainable way.
As part of the NHS Sustainability day of action staff are being given the opportunity to make a personal pledge to show how they are championing sustainability in and outside the workplace.
