Experts from NHS Confederation were treated to a whistle-stop tour of West London’s services at Ealing Hospital and St Bernard’s Hospital during a recent visit.  

Lord Victor Adebowale CBE and Rebecca Gray both members of the executive team of the membership body first sat down with Maria O’Brien, Chief Executive of West London NHS Trust and members from the Liaison Psychiatry Service (LPS), to find out more about how the team work collaboratively with other services to provide support to people with mental health conditions.  

Based at Ealing Hospital, LPS provide mental health support for people on the wards, in urgent care centres, and emergency departments. During the visit, the team, which is comprised of psychologists, mental health nurses, therapists, social workers and doctors explained how taking a holistic approach to mental health has enabled them to provide much needed support to patients dealing with mental health crisis. The pair also got the chance to hear from members of the Crisis Assessment and Treatment Team who provide dedicated support to patients in the community, including home visits.

The visit concluded with Lord Victor Adebowale CBE and Rebecca Gray touring several wards at the St Bernard’s Hospital site, including the Three Bridges Unit, Damson Ward, Falcon Ward, and Pearl Ward. During the tour, they had the opportunity to speak with patients and staff, gaining valuable insight into the care being delivered across the Trust.
