West London’s Chief Operating Officer for High Secure and Forensic Services has been awarded regional champion for leadership at the NHS Excellence Awards.

Leeanne McGee has led high secure and forensic services at West London NHS Trust for 16 years, and has played a central role in leading some of the most complex services in the NHS.

Under her calm and decisive leadership, she oversaw the multi‑year redevelopment of Broadmoor Hospital, supporting the successful move into a new facility in 2019.  She has also led the transformation of West London’s Forensic Services, and established the Trust as a leading partner in the North London Forensic Collaborative.

The impact of her leadership has been far reaching. West London’s Forensic Services’ rating from the regulator, the Care Quality Commission, moved from Inadequate to Outstanding in just three years and high secure services at Broadmoor Hospital are rated Good.

Services are now better tailored to patients’ needs thanks to Leeanne’s leadership in actively involving patient and carers in how these services develop.

Her coaching and mentorship of her teams and individuals has meant that many leaders in the organisation credit their progression to her belief in their potential.

Leeanne McGee, Chief Operating Officer for High Secure and Forensic Services, said: “It is really humbling to receive this recognition and I am incredibly proud to work with such dedicated people who work hard every day to provide the best care for our patients.”

Maria O’Brien, Chief Executive of West London NHS Trust said, “This recognition of Leeanne’s service reflects not only her personal commitment, integrity and compassion to delivering high quality care, but also the values we strive to live every day within the NHS. Leeanne’s leadership inspires teams, improves outcomes and sets a powerful example for others and on behalf of everyone at West London I would like to congratulate her being the regional champion.”

The NHS Excellence Awards shine a light on local projects and teams who are making a real difference to patients and communities, delivering on the ambitions of the 10 Year Health Plan and inspiring others to adopt innovative approaches in their local area.

The national winners for the awards will be announced on Wednesday 10 June.
