On 14 September, more than 170 delegates from around the country attended the launch of the National KUF Hub to celebrate the impact of this ground-breaking training programme.

The Knowledge and Understanding Framework (KUF) is a national training programme designed to develop the skills and knowledge of the workforce within the health, criminal justice and voluntary sectors to effectively support people who have complex mental health difficulties associated with a diagnosis of ‘personality disorder’.

Dr Aiyegbusi, Manager, National KUF Hub, said: ‘Introduced in 2009, KUF training was incredibly inspirational in taking a co-produced, multi-agency, trauma-informed approach long before this was mainstream. Ten years on the KUF team, based in Cassel Hospital at West London NHS Trust, is proud to be working in partnership with the Anna Freud Centre for Children & Families to develop and quality assure KUF training and to create a KUF community for the future.’

The National KUF Hub launch offered delegates an insight into KUF training and an opportunity to hear commissioners from NHSE/I, HEE and HMPPS share their perspectives. Delegates also had time to network, visit an online exhibition about the history and impact of KUF training, and find out about future developments. These are likely to include ensuring that KUF training reflects the needs of a more diverse population, and raising awareness among senior leaders about the difference KUF training can make in improving the experience of people who have complex emotional needs.

As the event closed, delegates were invited to describe KUF training and its impact. The words ‘innovative’, ‘inspiring’, ‘progressive’, ‘transformative’, and ‘empowering’ ran through the chat in quick succession. A great endorsement for KUF training.
