The third annual Dementia Action Week online event in May brought together 200 professionals, all eager to explore ways to improve dementia care. Hosted by West London NHS Trust, North West London Integrated Care Board, and the London Boroughs of Ealing, Hammersmith and Fulham, and Hounslow, the event provided a valuable space for exchanging knowledge, sharing best practice, and hearing directly from those living with dementia.

Jo Manley, Transition Director for Local Services, reflected on the extraordinary progress in dementia treatment and care over the past 30 years and said, "The wealth of skills, commitment, and enthusiasm was outstanding and filled me with great hope about all the work we are doing, and the future for people who are touched by dementia."

A particularly moving session featured Gautam and Anna, who shared their personal dementia journey, highlighting the experiences and challenges they faced, the anxieties they encountered, and the strategies they have discovered to navigate their journey.

A pre-recorded video, featuring ‘The Good Life with Dementia’ initiative, demonstrated the power of peer-led learning. Other presentations on Cognitive Stimulation Therapy, research engagement, and care home liaison emphasised the advancements in dementia care.

The event highlighted the ongoing challenge of helping individuals navigate the complex nature of health and care systems. From mindfulness-based interventions to innovations in research, this event served as a learning platform, strengthening the commitment to ensuring those affected by dementia receive compassionate and effective support.
