We’re proud to share the Trust has been awarded Triangle of Care Star 2 accreditation. This is a national award recognising organisations that continually work towards embedding partnership working with carers across their services.
The award is part of the ‘Triangle of Care’ quality improvement programme, developed by carers and delivered by Carers Trust. It supports health and social care organisations to improve safety, recovery and wellbeing by ensuring carers are recognised as partners in care, and supported through six key “carers included” standards.
The Trust has been commended for strong governance, co-production with carers and clear evidence of carer-inclusive practice.
This Star 2 award recognises the Trust’s work across Community Mental Health Services, building on the Star 1 accreditation achieved in 2019 for our inpatient mental health services. This marks a significant milestone in the Trust’s progress to ensure carers’ voices shape the design and delivery of care.
To achieve the award, a dedicated Triangle of Care Working Group brought together carers, partner organisations and staff to guide the programme, and teams self-assessed themselves against the Triangle of Care standards.
Debbie Hustings, Triangle of Care spokesperson at Carers Trust, said:
“I would like to congratulate you on being one of our strongest trusts nationally in the areas of strategy, governance, co production and Patient and Carer Race Equality Framework (PCREF) implementation.
“West London NHS Trust is a great example of how working together to involve carers, valuing people’s experiences and creating an open, welcoming environment can lead to real and lasting improvements.
Your work on the PCREF is especially impressive. You show strong leadership, involve carers in a meaningful way, make sure your practices reflect different cultures and backgrounds, and have a clear plan for making things fairer for everyone in the future.
“It is clear that carers’ voices are not only being heard but are helping shape services in meaningful and lasting ways.
Gillian Kelly, Trust Chief Nurse and Executive Carer Champion at West London NHS Trust, said: “I want to dedicate this achievement to our carers and the people who use our services, who are at the heart of everything we do. Their experiences, insights and honesty help us continually improve the way we provide care.
Listening to carers and patients makes our services better, safer and more compassionate. I’m incredibly proud of the way our carer partners and colleagues have worked together to embed those values across our community mental health services and look forward to expanding this work across other parts of the Trust”
With special thanks to carers Elaine Robinson, Naheed Mir, Christine Williams, Nadia Taylor, Miriam Emanuela Presta, Julie Aldred, Jeanette Banks and Karmjit Dhillon for their involvement in this work and Linda Thomas, Coproduction and Partnerships Development Manager for bringing everyone and this work together.
