On Friday last week (8 July) we had a visit from James Sunderland, Bracknell MP to Broadmoor Hospital. He was given a tour and heard more about the development of the ‘smart’ hospital, with Dr Robert Bates (Clinical Director at Broadmoor), Jonathan Hafferty (Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist & Research Lead), Dr Derek Tracy (Trust Medical Director) Dr Callum Ross (Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist), and our Chief Executive, Carolyn Regan, in attendance.

Dr Callum Ross was pleased to share that we’re "ahead of the international curve" in the way we incorporate digital medical systems, equipment, and data with wireless. He said: “In so doing, we consider how our Electronic Patient Records (EPRs) link with our communication systems by alerting doctors to crucial information. As well as the ways in which Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be used to analyse clinical findings and trends.

We are examining the remote means we are developing for clinicians to reach into secure settings and so to limit the need for expensive – and risky – trips to general hospital for patients in secure care.”

James Sunderland MP said of his visit: “I was delighted meet the team and patients.  Their research to incorporate digital medical systems, equipment and data is cutting edge with applications to wider general practice within the NHS.  I look forward to supporting the Hospital and Trust in its endeavours.”

Carolyn Regan, Trust Chief Executive said: “We are proud that our Trust is at the forefront of using digital technology in this way in high security healthcare settings, to provide high standards of patient care.”
