CapitalNurse is a programme which aims to ensure the NHS in London has the right number of nurses with the right skills in the right places across the capital. We’re proud to be part of CapitalNurse and to offer a bespoke rotational development programme as part of this scheme. 

The programme is aimed at nurses who are within their first 12 months of registration.

The CapitalNurse programme offers:
  • Experience across a range of clinical settings, with opportunities to develop competencies in specialist nursing skills
  • Support to complete our preceptorship programme to help develop confidence and practice competency, or opportunities to consolidate existing skills and experience
  • Access to practice supervisor and practice assessor training funded by the Trust
  • A series of action learning sets
  • Support from experienced specialist nurses
  • A named super mentor to facilitate development opportunities, including shadowing senior nurses, attendance at trust-wide clinical governance meetings and career guidance sessions
  • Access to high quality educational support and learning events
  • Access to London-wide career networking opportunities
  • A substantive post as a Band 5 staff nurse guaranteed on completion of the programme

Clinical rotation

As a CapitalNurse you’ll start on an 18 month rotation programme, working for 6 months at a time in different areas, following a specific pathway. You’ll meet patients at different points during their care and gain a greater understanding of what it means to nurse holistically.

  3. Psychiatric intensive care unit

High secure services
Mental illness or personality disorder pathway (includes central groupwork service and rehabilitation therapy services)

  1. Admission/assessment ward
  2. Rehabilitation/recovery ward
  3. High dependency ward

West London Forensic Services
Men’s and women’s services

  1. Low secure: rehabilitation
  2. Medium secure: admission/assessment
  3. Medium secure: rehabilitation/recovery
