Liaison Psychiatry Service

The Liaison Psychiatry Service provides care to people who are inpatients in Ealing Hospital, West Middlesex Hospital and Charing Cross and Hammersmith Hospital or visitors to the Urgent Care Centre or Emergency Department.

What we offer

The liaison psychiatry service is a team of mental health professionals who have specific expertise in helping people who harm themselves or who may have mental health problems which can cause complications for their physical healthcare and general hospital discharge.

The team consists of nurses and doctors who look after the mental health of patients in the above Hospital.

We are a consultant (doctor) led service. We work 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Our team offers assessment, initial treatment and helps to arrange follow-up care if necessary.

Who is it for?

  • People over the age of 16 years who self-harm.
  • People over the age of 16 years who are experiencing mental health problems (including dementia or memory problems) or mental distress brought about by physical ill health, such as acute confusion.

Other services

Outside the hospital, the liaison psychiatry service also gives advice about the interaction between mental and physical health to GPs (family doctors).

We also see certain patients referred by specialists in Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust for outpatient assessment and treatment alongside their physical care.

People are referred to this service by the Hospital staff.
