Mental health wards achieve highest level of accreditation

31 Oct 2013

Hounslow mental health services have been given the thumbs up by The Royal College of Psychiatrists who gave the highest level of accreditation to wards at Lakeside Mental Health Unit last week.

Staff at the specialist inpatient unit in London Road, Isleworth, took part in a rigorous eight-month assessment process, which included a review by inspectors from other NHS trusts who visited wards to see for themselves whether the staff, therapies and environment met the high standards required.

All four wards were given the AIMS (accreditation for inpatient mental health services) award, with three achieving the highest level – ‘excellent’.

Ward manager Brightmore Mukutirwa said: “I am ecstatic – this accreditation tells our staff, patients and carers that the services we provide are very high quality and I’m really proud of my team.”

Trust medical director, Dr Nick Broughton, said: “Achieving AIMS accreditation for all four wards at Lakeside is a fantastic achievement. It shows the dedication and ‘can-do’ attitude of staff who all work extremely hard to make sure patients get the best possible care and treatment in a challenging financial climate.”
