International nurses day

12 May 2011

Today marks International Nurses Day and we want to say thank you for the hard work of our amazing nursing workforce.

Mental health is one of the most complex and demanding areas of nursing and our nurses and healthcare assistants often have the most day to day contact with our patients.

Steve Trenchard, Director of Nursing and Patient Experience says:

“Nurses are the cornerstone of our workforce, providing 24-hour care through hopeful, optimistic and compassionate relationships. We know that sometimes the conditions they work in are difficult and that nurses are working very hard, in a fast changing service, with greater expectations placed on them. Today I would like us all to celebrate the commitment and hard work of all our nurses and thank them for their contribution to the work and life of our Trust.”

International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world every May 12, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth.
