From Monday 8 February 2016, the trust will be piloting a nurse-led out of hours liaison service for our Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS).
The 12 month pilot service will operate on Monday – Friday from 4.30pm – midnight, and 9.00am – midnight at weekends and bank holidays. Its aims are to:
- Provide rapid assessment and onward referral of young people who present in A&E outside of normal working hours or being referred through the trust 136 suites
- Offer support to adult services where young people are admitted
- Provide consultation and training to paediatric wards in the acute hospitals covered
- Provide advice and guidance to other practitioners working with young people such as GPs, police and social care emergency duty teams.
The team will be based at West Middlesex University Hospital, located with the adult psychiatric liaison service, and will operate across Ealing, Hounslow and Hammersmith & Fulham.
Dr Vijay Parkash, clinical director for the CAMHS service-line, said: “We’re very excited to be launching this new service. It will really add to the quality of care for children and young people who are in mental health crisis and need our support. We are looking forward to making the pilot a success, and are already thinking ahead to how this service becomes part of a wider strategy of improving access to our services”.
