At around 4.30 this morning, the siren at Bracknell was activated following the electrical storm that swept across the south east of England overnight. As soon as it became apparent that the alarm had been activated, we immediately contacted BT, who maintain all of our sirens, to switch it off. It was silenced shortly after 7am.
The trust would like to offer its sincere apologies to those local people who may have been either disturbed by the noise or distressed at the time. These sirens are very rarely activated by the weather and are regularly tested each week to ensure they work.
Over recent weeks, we have been consulting with parish and town councils on our proposals to decommission 7 of the 13 community based sirens because of their age and associated technology. These proposals include the decommissioning of the Bracknell siren
