Staff and patients at Lakeside Mental Health Unit joined together on Wednesday 16 December to celebrate the festive season with a host of activities at their Christmas fair.
Lakeside chaplain, reverend Mike Deacon, led the service and was supported with the readings by staff and patients from each of the five wards. This was followed by carol singing by the Lakeside staff choir and patients.
The event had various different stalls organised by the wards, which included a raffle, tombola, and other competitions such as ‘guess the number of sweets in the jar’. Activity tables were laid out for patients, with craft materials to make decorations and Christmas cards. Refreshments of mince pies and hot chocolate were also provided for all.
Kay Allen, inpatient service manager said “We held a very successful event. Reverend Deacon approached the team at Lakeside and offered to arrange a carol service for the patients, and from there on the event grew into a Christmas fair. Both patients and staff really enjoyed it and commented that now, ‘they feel more like it’s Christmas!’”
