Staffing levels

All hospitals in England are required to publish information about the number of nursing staff working on inpatient wards, together with the percentage of shifts that meet safe staffing guidelines.

This initiative is part of the NHS response to the Francis report which called for greater openness and transparency in the health service.

The National Quality Board (NQB) has set out the immediate expectations of NHS providers in providing safe staffing levels.
We will publish information about our staffing levels monthly. Select a month from the left-hand menu to view inpatient staffing information for that period.

Daily staffing status displayed on wards

Each ward in the trust will display a ‘staffing status’ poster to show the planned and actual numbers of staff on shift each day.
They will be displayed where they can be clearly seen by patients, visitors and staff.
The posters will also show who is in charge of the shift that day and when the poster was last updated.
